Ocean Alley Pally

Australian alternative psychedelic rock band Ocean Alley called upon PRG to deliver a lighting and video package for their performance at London’s Alexandra Palace, marking the biggest headline show of their career. With 10,000 fans filling the historic venue, the production team faced the challenge of translating the band’s signature sound into a space of such scale while maintaining intimacy and impact.

Lighting designer, Jake “Dutchy” Bylsma created a rig that seamlessly blended iconic retro textures with modern capabilities. The main feature were rows of PAR64 par-cans and two-light blinders, creating the warm, atmospheric glow throughout the set. These classic fixtures were layered with high-performance Ayrton Huracans, GLP X5s, JDC Burst 1s, and X5 IP Bars under the risers, to cut through the haze and add dynamism to the show. For extra depth to the production, dual-stacked Panasonic RZ-31K laser projectors were positioned on either side of the stage to deliver bright, crisp visuals.

For a show of this size, cameras were essential to capture every moment and ensure even fans at the back of the hall experienced both the scope and the intimacy of the performance.A multi-camera system was deployed, with three Sony HSC-300R cameras positioned - a long-lens position at FOH and two in the pit with 22x lenses. An additional two Panasonic UE-160 PTZ cameras were focused on keyboards and drums. All feeds were routed through a PRG 3G PPU system and a Blackmagic Constellation switcher, with main and backup Resolume media servers handling pre-show content, ad rolls, and live IMAG.

Reflecting on the project, Gemma Jaques, Account Manager at PRG, said “I have worked with the band for a few years now and so it was fantastic to be part of such a milestone show. Even though the setup was familiar, scaling it for a venue of this size takes real precision and teamwork. The focus was to give the production team everything they needed to deliver a show that felt like Ocean Alley, just bigger, and it was great to see that achieved so flawlessly on the night.”

The bands production team, headed by Nathan D’Agostino & Callum Howell, reinforced Gemmas sentiments. They noted that whilst it was challenging to deliver a production of this scale with a small touring crew, the great on ground support and project management by the PRG team ensured it was a smooth day for all involved.
