Celebrating One Year of Les Miserables: The Arena Spectacular

It's been an extraordinary year for Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular, the global tour marks its first anniversary, captivating audiences around the world with Victor Hugo’s timeless story brought to life on an epic scale.

Under the expert leadership of Production Manager Chris Boone, and with the visionary lighting design of Paule Constable and Warren Letton, the production has transformed arenas with breathtaking stages, combining the intimacy of musical theatre with the scale of international spectacle. Presented by Cameron Mackintosh Ltd and co-producers NGM Global, this reimagining of Les Misérables brings a fresh, monumental energy to the classic story.

A Behind-the-Scenes Triumph

From Belfast to Tokyo, the tour has travelled the equivalent of the Earth’s circumference. The set even travels in its own 747 Jumbo!

Over the past year, the show has debuted in 5 countries, played in 24 cities, and undergone 24 technical re-rigs and relights.

The cast has also grown, with 26 new members joining the company, including Geronimo the 8th actor to play Jean Valjean.

Over 100 musicians have performed, while the wardrobe department has trained 144 dressers and coordinated with 1,368 local crew members worldwide as well as managing 3,300 loads of laundry! The hoists have moved a total of 233 km, for perspective that’s roughly the distance from London to Nottingham.

But through it all, the show has delighted audiences, culminating last week with the milestone of selling the 1 millionth ticket.

Overseeing technical support and serving as the teams’ first point of contact was PRG Account Manager, Ian Phillips, who said: "It’s been incredible to work on every iteration of this iconic production. Seeing the magic of the show and its much-loved songs brought to life in massive arenas has been truly rewarding. Huge congratulations to the creative teams for delivering such a stunning performance every night."

From the Alps to Asia, from the first performance to the one millionth ticket, Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular has truly become a worldwide phenomenon.

Here's to the next year of revolution, romance, and unforgettable music!
